The one paragraph version

Every sound app hands you the same library and expects you to go digging. Luten works the other way round. You tell it how you actually feel, in plain words, and it answers with sound chosen for that state, then remembers what worked for you. Over weeks it converges on what holds your attention or settles you, and none of that ever leaves your phone. There are no vocals anywhere in the catalog, no ads, no talking, and no course to finish.

Why it exists

Two things are true about the category. Sound genuinely helps a lot of people concentrate or wind down, and almost every app in the space treats that as a content problem rather than a personalization one. You get a grid of tracks, and you are the recommendation engine.

Luten was built around the opposite bet: that the useful part is not a bigger library, it is a smaller one that gets more yours over time. The 3am wake-up was the design case that shaped the product. Roughly a third of adults wake in the middle of the night, more than struggle to fall asleep in the first place, and the last thing that version of you wants is a bright screen, a menu, or a voice telling you to notice your breath. Luten opens straight into sound.

What is actually different

It learns, and the learning stays on the device

The companion, Sona, reads plain-language input using Apple's on-device NaturalLanguage framework. No message, mood entry or listening history is sent to a server for this. There is no cloud model in the loop, which is unusual for anything described as a companion, and it is the reason Luten can be honest about privacy rather than careful about it.

Zero vocals, uniformly mastered, seamlessly looped

Nothing in the catalog has a voice or lyrics in it. Every track is mastered to a uniform loudness so moving between sounds does not jolt you, and loops are seamless rather than fading out and restarting. Noise tracks are synthesized to their true spectra rather than approximated.

Documented provenance

Roughly two thirds of the catalog is licensed recordings with a written license ledger for every file. The remainder is produced in-house using generative tooling. Luten does not claim to be an AI-free catalog, and the ledger is available to press on request.

A lifetime option

$119.99 once, no renewal. It exists because subscription fatigue in this category is real and a permanent option is a straightforward answer to it.

Feature summary

Positioning notes for writers

Luten makes no therapeutic claims. It is a wellness product, not a treatment, and it is not a substitute for care. Please avoid framing it as something that treats insomnia, anxiety or ADHD. What it does is help people find sound they like, faster, and remember it.

The company is equally happy to be quoted on what the evidence does not support. The research base for specific noise colors as a focus intervention is thin, and Luten's own copy frames those sounds as a preference rather than a mechanism.
